Why Am I Not Mayor Yet on Foursquare?

September 16, 2013

supermayor_bigIn short, the mayor is the user who has checked in on the most days at any venue over the past two months. Basically, it means you’ve been a frequent visitor and have a nice connection with the venue.

There are several benefits about becoming mayor of a given venue. Some venues give a wide range of specials. While, others have even been known to post pictures of the mayor a some place in their establishment.

With all of these great benefits and more, it can be frustrating when you’ve been doing your best to become mayor of an establishment and still keep on getting beaten out by another member.

Below you’ll find a couple of reasons why you might not be mayor this month, as well as guidelines for becoming the mayor.

What do I need to do to become the mayor?

In order to become the mayor you’ll need to be familiar with a few things. First, when you visit the venue page you’ll see a little box that shows ‘your visits’. When you hover over the picture of the current mayor you’ll see their number of qualifying check-ins which is what you want.

The number of qualifying check-ins is what determines your “mayor hood”, not the number of total check-ins.

What is a qualifying check-in?

A qualifying check-in is determined by the following:

1. Has to be within 60 days.

2. It has to be your first check-in of the day. So, if you come in multiple days it doesn’t count.

3. It needs to be a valid, points earning check-in.

If you satisfy all of the above requirements, then you’ll be on your way towards gaining even more qualifying check-ins.

What else do I need to know?

‘Be the mayor’ is a helpful tool that will help you determine how many qualifying leads you have. The only thing you need to do is enter your venue ID and the venue name, then you can login and it will give you everything you need to do to become a mayor.

There’s also two other things you need to keep in mind. One, you must have a profile picture. Two, you can’t become a mayor after your first visit. It only starts to tally up on your second visit.

I hope this article has been helpful and you now have a more well-rounded understanding on what it takes to become to mayor. Make sure not to stress, just keep checking in and one day you’ll get the sought after crown.
